Dietitians provide nutritional counseling and education to patients and caregivers. They assess the nutritional status and needs of the patient and provide education based on a prescribed diet by the physician.

SPECIFIC NUTRITIONAL GUIDANCE SERVICES

Provide nutritional guidance in accordance with a physician’s written order or on a consultative basis. Nutritional guidance services provided by a qualified nutritionist and under the supervision of a clinical supervisor include but are not limited to:

• Evaluating the client’s financial and emotional ability to adhere to a prescribed diet
• Formulating diets and realistic goals for food management
• Educating the client, the family and other health team members to specific dietary treatment plans
• Documentation of clinical and progress notes and summaries for the clinical record
